Under the general direction of the Director of Patient Business Services and the immediate direction of the Supervisor of Outpatient Registration, is continuously responsible for the assigned duties of the outpatient registration area, in accordance with established policies and procedures.
This is a per diem position.
Experience: General knowledge of coding and medical terminology and demonstrated computer skills preferred. Excellent interpersonal communication skills, and ability to be very detail-oriented.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
1. Performs efficient processing of outpatients and non-patient accounts (after-hours, specimens) in a timely, accurate, courteous (customer friendly) and confidential manner.
o Obtains consent to treat and assigned benefits signatures appropriately
o Maintains acceptable volume levels
2. Maintains updated accurate knowledge of state and federal laws as they apply to patient registration.
3. Coding
o Applies ICD9 diagnostic codes to outpatient/emergency records
o Deciphers narrative signs, symptoms and diagnosis
o Input ICD9 diagnostic code(s) to the CPSI system
o Contacts referring physician practice when needed for clarity and completeness.
o Works with HIM department as needed for clarification and coding training
o Works with the Laboratory and Medical Imaging department to ensure all requisitions are accounted for daily
o Processes information as necessary to financial assistance office
4. Advises Supervisor or Director of Out of the Ordinary Conditions which may require action or intervention.
5. Performs effective patient triage as necessary.
o Identifies high risk patients accurately
o Effectively processes patient for treatment and obtains information at appropriate time
6. Accurately processes physicians not in the CPSI computer system.
7. Maintains accurate patient log.
8. Processes documents incidental to registration appropriately (e.g. claim forms, Medicare non-covered forms, copies of insurance cards).
9. Maintains working knowledge of and demonstrates accurate and efficient use of the CPSI computer system.
10. Provides assistance/backup for the business office as needed for following tasks.
o Secondary billing
o Follow up
o Processing of mail
11. Processes return mail in timely and accurate manner.
o Corrects information on line
12. Assists Director of Patient Business Services with special projects and other duties as required.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
