Under the general direction of the Director of Environmental Services, housekeepers are responsible for sustaining a sterile environment in all areas of the hospital. On-the-job training is available.
This is a full time, day shift position.
Experience: Housekeeping or similar/related experience a plus
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Hospital housekeepers routinely clean patient rooms, nursing units, surgical areas, emergency department, administrative offices, laboratory areas, pharmacy, waiting areas, and public restrooms also other areas as designated, as well as launder hospital linen. Using various cleaning chemicals and disinfectants, housekeepers wipe equipment, clean furniture, polish floors and vacuum carpets. They make beds, empty trash and restock medical supplies. Housekeepers also collect dirty laundry from all patient areas and distribute the clean linen and hospital gowns back to the appropriate floors. Using cleaning supplies and equipment are an essential part of the position, which is why housekeepers take a daily inventory as well as inspect their equipment for any repairs or replacements and report any issues to maintenance for immediate attention.
Occasionally, housekeepers attend in-service training. Such meetings can include updates on company policies, new equipment demonstrations and discussion of complaints made by patients or hospital staff in regards to housekeeping. They also ensure that proper infection-control policies are being followed.
Duties
1. Cleans and sanitizes all assigned areas on a routine schedule following established guidelines.
2. Utilizes supplies and equipment properly without waste.
3. Assists with patient transportation within the hospital as required.
4. Demonstrates understanding of and complies with established hospital policies, procedure and standards of operation.
5. Maintains appropriate interpersonal relationships with staff, patients and visitors at all times. Works as a team member with other departments.
6. Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed.
